Seed science is a discipline that studies the entire life cycle of seeds—from development and dormancy to germination—to understand the origin of species and safeguard the foundation of food security.

种子学课程作为农学专业的专业核心课程，通过课堂及实践教学让远离农业农村的学生理解种子的意义，介绍相关的概念、典型应用、对人们生活和农业的影响；促使学生了解与种子相关的种植、加工、贮藏、检验的知识，培养探索兴趣和相关科研思维。通过种子这个窗口让国际学生了解中国农业、读懂中国，为深化国际友谊与合作积极贡献力量。

Seed Science, as a core professional course in agronomy, enables students distant from rural and agricultural contexts to understand the significance of seeds through classroom instruction and practical training. It introduces key concepts, typical applications, and the profound impacts of seeds on daily life and agricultural development. The course equips students with essential knowledge regarding seed cultivation, processing, storage, and testing, fostering curiosity and cultivating scientific thinking. Through the lens of seeds, international students gain insight into Chinese agriculture and a deeper understanding of China, thereby actively contributing to the deepening of international friendship and cooperation.

课程负责人：四川农业大学 蒲至恩 教授

Course Director: Professor Pu Zhien, Sichuan Agricultural University

本课程拥有一支实力雄厚的教学团队，授课教师中包括教授6人、副教授3人、讲师2人；长江学者1人，青年长江学者1人。课程负责人在新西兰梅西大学专修高等教育法，其他骨干教师具有海外大学博士学位或者国外访学经历。教学队伍长期从事种子学教学科研工作，与种业一线人员保持有良好的沟通，教学及实践内容高度贴合国家种业发展需求。

The course boasts a highly accomplished teaching team, comprising six professors, three associate professors, and two lecturers; among them, one is a Changjiang Scholar and another is a Young Changjiang Scholar. The course director holds a specialized degree in higher education law from Massey University in New Zealand, while other core faculty members all possess doctoral degrees from overseas universities or have completed extended visiting scholar programs abroad. This teaching team has been deeply engaged in both instruction and research in Seed Science for many years, maintaining close collaboration with industry professionals in the seed sector to ensure that curriculum content and practical training are closely aligned with the real-world demands of China’s seed industry development.
