This course has been offered for international master's and doctoral students at UESTC since 2012 and is an important foundational course in mathematics. It systematically teaches core content such as convex analysis and optimization theory, unconstrained and constrained optimization algorithms, linear and integer programming, and multi-objective optimization, establishing a complete knowledge system from fundamental theory to cutting-edge algorithms. Addressing the diverse academic backgrounds and varying mathematical foundations of international students, the course adopts a full-English, small-class teaching model and innovatively integrates the CDIO (Conceive-Design-Implement-Operate) educational philosophy of "theoretical analysis - model building - algorithm design - program implementation." The teaching team fully utilizes computational tools like MATLAB for algorithm visualization and numerical simulation, intuitively presenting abstract mathematical concepts and iterative processes, effectively reducing learning difficulty. The course emphasizes tailored teaching and cross-cultural communication. Through personalized guidance, diversified cases, and process-based assessment, it focuses on cultivating students' ability to apply optimization methods to solve practical complex problems in fields such as communications, automation, and management. This course is supported by an international, high-level teaching team that balances research and teaching. The course director, Associate Professor Zhang Wenxing, has postdoctoral experience at Université Toulouse III - Paul Sabatier, France, and has long been engaged in optimization theory research and teaching. Core team members include Professor Xiao Yibin, French Professor Kahn Jonas (selected for the National Young Thousand Talents Plan), and Associate Professor Zhang Xiaowei. All instructors hold doctoral degrees and have extensive overseas study or work experience. Their academic backgrounds cover multiple renowned domestic and international institutions such as Nanjing University, Sichuan University, École Normale Supérieure de Paris, and Université Paris-Sud, ensuring diverse academic perspectives. The team possesses profound mathematical theoretical expertise and rich cross-cultural teaching experience, capable of proficient full-English instruction and academic guidance. In recent years, the team has continuously carried out reforms in teaching content, methods, and assessment, committed to integrating cutting-edge research成果, engineering cases, and computational tools into teaching, successfully building a rigorous, practical, and student-adaptive course system. The course director has been awarded the university-level "Excellent Course Teacher for International Graduate Student Cultivation" title for multiple consecutive years, reflecting the team's outstanding teaching quality and contributions.
